Uruguay has still a lot of desaparecidos – people kidnapped during the dictatorship between 1973-84 and never found again. Like María Emilia Islas who is still missing. She disappeared at 22 years, with her husband and her child of 18 month. María Esther Gatti – her mother spent searching 16 years for her granddaughter finding her living with a familiy of an Argentinian military officer in Buenos Aires. After learning the truth about her origin, the 18-year old granddaughter chose to continue living with the parents who adopted her by force, when she was a baby.
